SCITECH BAND TO PERFORM AT HOLYOKE MALL
The Springfield High School of Science and Technology Band to Perform on March 8th at 4:00 p.m.
HOLYOKE, MA-Holyoke Mall is excited to welcome the SciTech Band to the shopping center on Friday, March 8, 2019, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on the Lower Level near Hobby Lobby.
Known as the “Pride of Springfield,” The Springfield High School of Science and Technology Band Program is one of Massachusetts top music programs and has received numerous accolades including the 2017 Massachusetts Commonwealth Award, the state’s highest honor given for achievement in the arts.
Led by Gary Bernice and Carissa Lueth, the SciTech Band incorporates their love for music and mission to empower young students to become active leaders in their community. According to the SciTech Band “building a quality band in a city with the sixth highest child poverty rate in the United States is said to have been impossible.”
However, they found success as the program focused on leadership development and peer mentoring. “Since January of 2007, the SciTech Band has grown from 20 students to over 500. Perhaps more importantly, the odds of staying in school are three times higher for students who join the band for more than one year.”
